Crews Letter #2011 05
Turks
Vote
Not in our
lifetime has the US.
Good Morning Crew
The second Sunday in June we were docked in Marti Marina in Orhaniye. As Fred was walking to the fuel dock, he met
a man who with his family was leaving their boat to drive to Izmer to
vote. National Election Day and this
family drove 3 hours each way to vote.
His explanation, “If you don’t
vote, you have no right to complain.”
Americans have heard that before.
Turkey, with a population of 79
million, 50 million registered voters, 24 million under age, 43 million, 86% of
the registered voters voted! These
people hold this right, privilege and responsibility dear. for more
And they only voted once! You have to like the idea of each voter being required to dip a finger (right index or next available) in purple stain.
Kind of
knocks a hole in the old Texas saying, “Vote early and vote often.” Without that phenomenon, we might have
avoided LBJ and the “Great Society” experiment.
The experiment that is now collapsing in complete
failure.
