Greetings! From September 10-22, 2008 we, a bunch of Canadians, had the privilege to sail with Fred and Phyl. The following details the highlights of our wonderful trip!

We arrived in
Izmir from Istanbul, and were driven to Kusadasi, where SV Perception was awaiting our arrival. Unfortunately, technical difficulties prevented our departure immediately as originally planned. However, this worked out for our benefit in the end. From the marina we were able to take a tour of the surrounding area. This included visiting Sirince, a small community with ample markets, produce, and wine tasting! We also took a visit to the house of the Virgin Mary. On our second day in Kusadasi, we again took a tour, this time to Efes, the ancient city that is still under excavation. Wow! Our tour guide then took us to visit St. Johns church, another excavated marvel.

Once SV Perception was fixed up and ready to go we set sail to Turgetries. The marina here is beautiful. Here we visited a huge produce market, among other little shops. The highlight of Turgetries was definitely experiencing the traditional hamam, or Turkish Bath. Very relaxing and highly recommended!

Our journey then took us to Bodrum, where we visited
Bodrum Castle, a site on its own, as well as an underwater archeological museum.

We then continued on to Cokertme, fondly remembered as "Rose Mary's", where we spent the night and had a lovely dinner ashore. The next morning we were invited to explore the small village and were treated to a demonstration of how traditional turkish carpets are weaved. Very interesting indeed!

For us, the favourite stop was in Sahir Adalari, site of Cleopatra's Beach. Beautiful! We stayed for the majority of the afternoon, swimming and lounging on the lovely Egyptian sand!

Fred and Phyl are wonderful hosts and ensured that we saw all the sites that otherwise would have gone unnoticed to us! Their knowledge of
Turkey truly enabled us to have a genuine experience of the people and culture in that wonderful country. This was definitely a vacation that we will fondly remember!

Sails, Full and By,
Phyl and Fred
