#2002 14 - Perception is Reality, Clarity is Essential

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen

A lot has happened in the last month. It deserves a careful rendering. My
writing time and inspiration has been a bit short. I will digress.
When my father rearranged his estate to provide for an easy and tax-free
transition at the time of his death, he described the trust as a "Living
Trust” with the following explanation. "Legally you have full access to all
of the funds in the trust. The reason I call it 'living' is because if you
touch a penny of it before I die, you will not be."

He was the gentlest man I have ever known. There was no doubt in my mind
that this was not an idle threat.

Recently, the following quote crossed my email box.
Texas Republican Member of The House of Representatives, Dick Armey, was
asked: "If you had been in President Clinton's place, would you have
resigned?"
He responded: "If I were in the President's place I would not have gotten a
chance to resign. I would be laying in a pool of my own blood, hearing Mrs.
Armey standing over me saying, "How do I reload this damn thing?"

Phyl and I celebrated 80 years of marriage last week, 40 each. Dick Armey
and I have something in common.

One important aspect of "Perception" is understanding who you are and how
you relate to the people around you. In Texas we have a habit of trying to
make this clear.
